We’ve officially made it to Paris! Emily and I are both currently running on over 36 hours without sleep, but we are making it work. To start off our trip we spent all day riding a hop-on, hop-off bus, touring all around some of Paris’ most iconic attractions. We ended up “hopping-off” right by the Paris Opera House which was right by the hotel where I stayed in on my first trip to Paris six years ago. However, the most memorable part of today’s explorations was at an adorable cafe La Royale, where I attempted to order my entire meal in French. And though I was obviously struggling at times, our waiter never once spoke English to me. So often the second someone realizes you are American they will immediately switch to English, which is frustrating when you’re trying to learn. But our waiter was so patient and made sure I understood. It was just such a kind gesture, and the food wasn’t half bad either. Escargots and a glass of rose with a view. Despite the cold, it was a pretty amazing day! Now off to dinner in an hour, and I’m starving.
Emily here! As we were heading back to the hotel from our “hop off” at the Paris Opera House, we sat at the top of the double decker bus to take in the sights. Of course we immediately regretted it when the wind started blowing and we could barely even feel our fingers and toes, but that ride back is where I was entranced by the all the differing architecture in Paris. Knowing that many of these buildings had been here since the 1800’s was so fascinating. They have been preserved so well, and they were able to withstand two World Wars and about 200 years.
